Activist season is coming, probably..

Yesterday we were suppose to have a catastrophe drill, but this Sunday we ended up having a read through of the new procedure for behavior and handling towards environmental activists because of the new gas plant that will be build from September.
We were to smile and talk polite to the activists, not to start any form of discussions with them(for or against) and not to touch them in any way. That was the police' job.
However, if the start to open or close valves or light up cigarettes or similar, we will automatically get authority to do anything to stop this happening. Fair enough..

I often wonder why the environmental organizations go against the gas power plants. Norway imports each year 300'000 year supplies of electrical power. This mainly comes from the coal power plants in Germany, which is much more harmful to the environment than the carbon monoxide produced by the gas plants.

I asked a friend of a friend once who was a very dedicated member of the Norwegian organization Natur og Ungdom why the were against it. He said that the result of a gas powered plant will be a much higher consume of electrical power. This because of the much lower prices that would come as a result of more domestic power production. I think this makes no sense. Most people don't look at the power prices before the put on lights at night or start the kitchen supplies. It is just like the "new" higher fines for speeding, people don't end up driving slower, they just end up paying more when they get caught.
I think they are trying to put out the fire by aiming the water at the flames not at the source. What about all the TV's that is in "stand by" mode all day? Equipment and appliances that is in "stand by" mode is alone 10 percent of a households el-power consume.

Environmental activists: It is other things in the category of sustainable development that needs more focus than the power production. The most important thing is the use and reuse of materials. In fact the future of the world is in the hand of recycling. For instance the price recycling of recycling aluminum 10 percent of the price of making new aluminum.

Ahh.. The first night shift is always the longest. Want to go home and sleep now. Starting to see double.
